SHIATSU Named after two Japanese words “shi” meaning finger and “atsu” meaning pressure, Shiatsu is rooted in Chinese Medicine which dates back some 4,000 years. It is a relaxing gentle full body treatment that works on balancing the energy in your body thereby generating health and healing. Sometimes called acupuncture without needles, Shiatsu uses the same principles as acupuncture. It accepts the interrelationship of body, mind and spirit, and recognizes Qi, or life force, that flows according to the seasons and cycles of life in the form of the Five Elements; wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Asian healers believe that the individual is powered by qi (pronounced “chi”) as it runs through our bodies in special pathways or meridians. Illness, injuries and everyday stress can cause these pathways to become blocked, or filled with too little or too much energy. Through strategic touching that includes stretching, palming, simple muscle massage and pressing into sensitive or trigger points, the qi and the elements are regulated so that energy flows as it should. Using techniques to disperse blockages, tonify deficiencies and disperse excesses, pain, sensitivities and stress are relieved. To further support treatment, Shiatsu practitioners
may evaluate and recommend life style changes. All sessions are conducted
with the client fully clothed. |
